Access to finance is a critical area of interest for all parts of the market and an important area for the PIA to address. The PIA is therefore forming a new property finance group.
There have been two previous iterations of such a group, both focused exclusively on debt. The PIA Property Debt Group operated during the GFC (2008-12) principally as a source of market information to the Bank of England and other policymakers. It was revived in 2015 with a view to coordinating the implementation of certain of the recommendations of the 2014 report ‘A Vision for Real Estate Finance in the UK’.
A new group is now proposed, with a wider remit, under the name of the PIA Finance Group.
A range of factors (specific and general, cyclical and structural) currently justify a renewed focus not only on debt, but also on equity capital flows relevant to the UK property sector.
